Music is found in every known culture and religion, past and present, varying widely between times and places. Since all people of the world, including the most isolated tribal groups, have a form of music, it may be concluded that music is likely to have been present in the ancestral population prior to the dispersal of humans around the world.
Romantic music refers to the music of Western Europe during the Romantic period, roughly from the early 19th to the early 20th century. This period was marked by a focus on individual expression, emotion, and imagination in musical composition. Romantic music is characterized by its use of intense emotions, lyrical melodies, and expanded harmonies. Composers such as Franz Schubert, Frederic Chopin, and Richard Wagner created works that emphasized individualism and romanticism. The period also saw the rise of new forms such as the symphonic poem and the art song. The influence of romantic music can be seen in later periods, particularly in the development of modernism and the 20th century avant-garde movements.
